Personally, I would type the exam. This is because you can rearrange your answer easily and I think its easier for an examiner to read your script which as to be a big plus. Also, I found when I handwrote the essays ( On the NY Bar Exam), I was absolutely exhausted by the time the afternoon portion started. By the end the hand felt like it was going to fall off. Had I not passed in Feb 09, I was definitely going to use a laptop for the previous reasons. Its a personal choice though.
