Thread: Advice on Bar study while working

  1.   Advice on Bar study while working #1
Hi there, Did you pass the bar while working full time with kids? I would love to hear your strategy and tips. I REALLY can't afford to take this bar again. I took CA twice and didn't pass. I'm taking NM in July which seems a lot easier to pass. BUT I have two little kids and a full time job....do you have any advice for me? I got outlines from baroutlines.com and will review past exams and I'm considering just a couple sessions with a tutor....other than that I don't think I can afford a review course, but again, I don't want to take it again (I do have old Barbri books and multistateedge account) I actually traded in my car to pay for the bar sitting fee (In the process, I also got a newer used car). So....if you have any advice or guidance it would be greatly appreciated!! I am thinking I have 16 weeks or so to study, even if I'm only studying part time, it seems like that should be enough....thanks again!!!

    Hi Sarah-

My name is Shana Karpeles and I am the founder of CA Bar Style. I took the CA Bar Exam with a 3 month old and I completely understand how you feel. The best way to prepare for the exam while working and with kids is to have reliable and trustworthy childcare during the hours you are studying whether it is a nanny, mom or mother-in-law, hubby /boyfriend, or daycare. You can definitely pass the exam as a working Mom, but you will have to structure your studying schedule around their care or sleep time and make sure you are focusing on the areas that get tested and know how to write for the exam instead of merely spending time learning unlimited areas of law. The key to proper preparation is quality vs. quantity. I understand that you cannot afford a bar prep, but feel free to visit my website at cabarstyle.com and call me anytime at 310-612-8984 to discuss ways to properly prepare for the exam with your busy schedule. I wish you all the success on the upcoming NM exam!
