Thread: Bar Passer and PMBR

  1.   Bar Passer and PMBR #1
Anybody has used Bar Passer before? Also, for those of you who did barpassers, did you also take pmbr or did you find that pmbr was not necessary for the mbe?

  2.   Re: Bar Passer and PMBR #2
barpassers sucks. they don't know how to teach how to write. they use flowcharts that are confusing. They overcharge for their course. The micromash they use is outdated. some of their law is wrong in their essay books. Their outlines are too long and difficult to use.

What should you take then? Many believe that it depends on whether you are a first timer or a repeater. barbri works better for first timers who zoomed through law school with minimal difficulty. If you feel you need more individualized learning then I would seriously consider other options..... besides barpassers

Bar passers is owned by Barbri. It is designed for visual learners...That is the main difference that I could ascertain.

Many people I know love their essay book and sample answers. Helped them understand how to write different types of essays and finding out that there is a pattern to each essay and also what you need to put down in your blue book and screen.

If you want to take one important thing from my post in regards to essays. IT IS ENROLL IN TO BAR PASSERS CORUSE AND GET THEIR BOOKS ESPECIALLY THE ESSAY BOOK WITH PAST QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS. YOU WILL UNDERSTAND WHY I SUGGEST THAT BOOK AS COMPARIED TO OTHERS. I HAVE SEEN BARBRI'S PAST SAMPLE ANSWER AND I DOTN LIKE THEM. BAR PASSERS ANSWERS ARE CONSISTENT, PERIOD!!!

Regarding PMBR, don't think you need them as long as you practice all the questions that came with your package (may it be Barbri or Bar Passers) PMBR just practices with you.

    Goods and Bads

What is good are the 'flow charts' and the ipod lectures [although recorded several years ago. What is bad are the 'graded essays' 10+ day turnaround of graded essays , lack of any administrative follow-up, exorbitant pricing, and 4-5 pound, glued books and the initial 1 to 1 1/2 inches worth of updates they expect you to file

    don't like it

I took barpassers and was very disappointed. Really check it out before you consider this (bad) option. They provide minimum comments on essays, do not track them, and the essays I got back took over ten days each. If you enjoy 4-5 pound glued books, have at it!

    I like their essay

I really like the Bar Passers Essay Book. There are about 10 or so essays from former calbar exams that are probably the tougher essays previously administered per substantive so you're looking at ~ 130 essays & model answers. The outline and answer show how to do the essay in one hour. Both the outline and corresponding model answers are very concisely written. Contrast this w/ several other essay books that have extremely long outlines and corresponding exceptional model answers that likely were not written in one hour.
The books are a little tough to find.

  7.   BarBri or BarPassers? #7
I know 95% of CA Bar Exam takers enroll in the BarBri test prep program. But has anyone taken BarPassers? Please share your insights on which course I should take. I'm interested in understanding the material well and not just following the herd. Thank you for your help!

    Here's what I found on jdjinx.com:

i too have the same dilemma, so i phoned barbri this morning. the rep actually gave an unbiased opinion, stating that both programs offer essentially the same materials and both will provide you with the law you need to pass the exam. she said that it is a matter of what your style of learning is and recommends that visual learners go with barpassers. i asked her if the lecturers are comparable. she said that while she believes barbri has the "best in the business," but then again, she thinks that a barpassers rep would say the same with regard to their own professors. ultimately, this is a personal decision. do you excel suing flowcharts to map your analysis??

if 95% of the market share belongs to barbri, then 95% of exam takers are going to know the same tricks and techniques. if 95% of test takers are going to miss the same question/issues, then it is more than likely that the majority of missed questions will be omitted anyway. i think barbri is the safe choice.
    I also found this:

So I called BarPassers to get their take on things. They pretty much said the same thing: those who worked with Emanuel's or Gilbert's and are better with learning blackletter law by outlines, should go with BarBri. He said BarPassers is designed for visual learners. They also cater more to those who need flexibility - with the option to either attend classes, listen to lectures via an ipod, or do both. However, their tutorial options includes an early-start, meaning you start preparing now! Here's another thing to consider: they offer UNLIMITED one-on-one sessions with a tutor during the week. So, if they are essentially the same with the materials they provide... why not go with the luxury of having a more personalized approach with your very own tutor who can easily track your progress and provide personalized instruction, tips, and feedback. BarBri is the safe choice, but BarPassers is the "more bang for your buck" choice.
Both present interesting arguments. More for your money or safety in numbers?????????

I took Barpassers and passed the first attempt. I loved their guided schedule, outlines, essays and flowcharts. I am now studying for another State Bar Exam, and wish that Barpassers offered a course for that State. I am actually using my old flowchart book for the MBE and their old MBE released questions/answers.

I would recommend Barpassers to anyone! I know others who used Barpassers and did not pass on the first try, because of their essay writing. Those persons still loved their flowcharts!
