Thread: ca bar passing avg. score calculation - is this correct?

  1.   ca bar passing avg. score calculation - is this correct? #1
the model below is apparently according to the newly updated evaluation model for 2010 for the California bar. these scores are apparently good enough to pass (just barely). however, i am very surprised because i was under the impression that the usual average essay “passing” score in California was 62.5 (i spent a lot of time researching to get the exact # i need to avg. passing, even if just barely).

can someone maybe take a look at this and see if these #’s are right on point?

    here it the web site:

    MBE RAW SCORE = 130/190 (68% CORRECT)

    PT #1 = 60
    PT #2 = 60
    ESSAY 1 = 60
    ESSAY 2 = 60
    ESSAY 3 = 60
    ESSAY 4 = 62
    ESSAY 5 = 62
    ESSAY 6 = 62

    TOTAL =

    MBE Scaled = 147
    Scaled MBE at 35% = 514.5
    Written Points = 606
    Written Scaled = 1426.3333
    Scaled Written at 65% = 927.116645

    Total POINTS = 1441
The final score is the sum of the Scaled Written at 65% and the Scaled MBE at 35%

    Result = Passed
(Passing is 1440, or more, total points)

I sat for Feb 2009 and wasn't successful. I plugged in the scores from my score sheet that the Bar sent me.

Unfortunately, it looks like that spreadsheet gives you about 30 more points than what the examiners gave me. The 'Scaled Written Score' is the area that looks like it's a bit off. I'm not sure what was changed for 2010, if anything.

This one looks to be more accurate....
