Thread: CA July 09 Bar Topics

  1.   CA July 09 Bar Topics #1
What are the 'expert bar predictors' expecting for topics on the CA July 09 exam? I'll be taking Bar-Bri, but understand from former students that they have really gotten their topic predictions wrong the past few years, while some of the private tutors have been doing remarkably well. My law school heavily promoted Bar-Bri, so we'll see.

Help!!! Best of luck to all!

My advice is to not rely on predictions, and just study everything as if it will be on the bar. There are some topics within each subject that aren't on the priority list . . . must know's vs. only if you have time. For example: First Amendment? must know. Federal Postal Powers? only if you have time.

I passed the CA bar and to answer your question, I don't think examinees can predict which subject matters will appear in the bar exam. That being said, all the examinees are in the same boat so it shouldn't be a huge concern.

Just learn as much law as possible (I know, it's hard) and try to use all the facts given in the fact pattern.

    Good luck.

Thanks much folks! Does anyone know which subjects were on the Feb 09 Bar, specifically? E.g. Torts-Strict Liability; Property-Adverse Possession, etc.

I only ask because my weakest topics are Community Property and Trusts.

    Thanks

Community Property/Wills/Trusts were not tested in Feb. 2009. You can go on the Cal State Bar website to see the essays/topics. If you are having trouble remembering the law, either make or get someone else's condensed outlines and 1-page per subject checklists. These condensed outlines should be short and concise (5-10 pages per subject) and they should just be lists, not a bunch of sentences. Your brain can memorize more if you only give it words and lists to memorize as opposed to long verbage.

With regard to CP and Wills/Trusts, read the Convisor outlines first and then just do A LOT OF ESSAYS AND REVIEW THE MODEL ANSWERS. The more you do, the more you will understand the law in ANY subject. Don't waste time trying to understand law just by reading an outline. You will understand the law when you understand how it is applied, and you can only do that by doing lots and lots of essays.
