I have loads of materials but upon review of them, I haven't actually found any books with good tips for the essay portion of NY...Many of them contain just copies of old essays and lots of generic advice- ie read carefully etc. This book seems to be recommended but doe sit actually provide insightful advice and tips? Is it the equivalent of of S & T for the MBE in relation to the NY essays? If not, are there any other recommendations? Many thanks.

I'm no expert on the bar exam, but I can tell you this: I took NY and NJ and passed them on the first try. I read the Gallagher book, and I did embrace and employ her Under/Here/Therefore format. While I found her book helpful, and my essays were apparently acceptable, I think my best preparations for the essay portion of the exam were as follows. I read substantive outlines on the material; I wrote dozens of essays from practice questions; I outlined many more essays (writing them takes a lot of time). For me, a great deal of learning/memorizing/owning the material occurred during the process of doing and thinking about the essays. Reading about how to write essays is useful in small doses, but doing and thinking about essays had the biggest payoff for me in terms of time spent.
