The report I read on legal week totally said it's too easy for foreign attorneys :( so I don't know if it's going to get harder or not:



College of Law chief executive Nigel Savage has called on the Law Society to be firmer in its handling of course providers offering the Qualified Lawyers Transfer Test (Qltt) after voicing concerns over the quality of successful applicants at some private colleges.

Writing for legalweek.com, Savage today (22 January) says there is a “strong case for [the Law Society] being more hands-on” in its regulation of the Qltt, which lets English barristers and Scottish solicitors, as well as growing numbers of foreign lawyers, re-qualify as English solicitors (see blog entry).

Savage argues that Qltt courses are regulated less strictly than the Legal Practice Course (LPC) even though passing the Qltt automatically admits applicants to practise as a solicitor in England and Wales.

He points to instances where applicants have passed exams with private providers despite having repeatedly failed at the College of Law, citing one candidate who passed the course at a private college after failing six times at the College of Law with an average mark of just 34%.

Savage writes: “Given the context that candidates sit a test and any preparation or teaching beforehand is an optional extra, it is difficult to readily identify an acceptable explanation for a candidate passing with one provider having six times failed convincingly with another.

“I worry about the implications of the above on professional standards and conduct. At the very least the Regulations Board needs to appoint a chief external examiner to monitor standards and impose more rigorous requirements on providers.”

I heard too many people are complaining how easy it is for foreign attorneys to get in that they are making it a lot harder.

Yes ....

I have taken Qltt, and touch-wood I have passed the Examin OCt 2006.
Applied to the Law Society to enroll my name on the Rolls of Solicitors of England and Wales.

I cleared the test last year, and I still continue to work with the same organization and from the job prospective as of now I have not achieve something great even after Qltt in my current org. However I hope it should help me when I plan to switch the job.

The Qltt was not very tough to crack, but getting harder day by day, but you need minimum 2-3 months of study, depending for how many Heads you are appearing for. I being from India appeared only for the Head III and studied sincerly for around 40 days at the same time also took 1 day Revision Session conducted by the College of Law in UK.

Yes.. Qltt enables lawyers to qualify as Solicitors in England and Wales, but there are certain formalities to be completed before-hand.. some lawyers would require to complete the training then CRB .. Admission on the rolls and finally the Practising certificate...

I took the qualified lawyers transfer test (qltt) at one world studies. in my opinion the Qltt is not difficult and the support I got from onewstudies was outstanding.

i am atul m vala from mumbai, india practising as an advocate in india and has recently obtained the certificate of eligibility from SRA-uk and have obtained the study material from oneworldstudies and although i am busy preparing for my c.s. final group exam. tobe held on dec,2009. i just have gone through the study material and i found the exercises given very easy because at the exam hall Qltt student are allowed to bring and keep during the exam sesion the printed study material for their reference. it is an open book exam for the lawyers.
