I am a china lawyer and a visiting scholar inTulane University now, I heard about that a foreign attorney can take part in the bar examination fo CA, would you tell me what docuents I need to prepare and what form I need to fill out ,and how will I mail the docuents and forms to the OFFICE , how will I pay the fee of application? thanks a lot!

Hi tim,

I don't know if you have obtained a LLM or something similar in China, but most likely you will need at least that to be qualified to sit for the Cal. Bar Exam.

If you have not done so, I highly recommend you to read the rules regarding California Admission

Other information regarding bar admission can also be found on the state bar of California

If those rules are too hard to understand, please post here again and let us know 1) what education have you obtained, and 2) what kind of license do you have?

Thank you very much!
I had been studied law in china law school for four years and got my Bachelor degree of law 2000, and I have been taken a lawyer job for seven years in Guangzhou City ,China.
I can't understand the requires of the docuents you gave. and I can't find the answer of what docuents I need to provide ,and how to provide for the Bar examination of CA.
I found a very important information in the docuent you gave, according to the rule 4.17 of the admissions and enducational standards, if I pass the Bar examination of CA and I want apply a lawyer offce job, I need apply no later five years from the last day of passing the CA Bar examinaton, do this mean the certification of passing CA Bar will be invalidation without application in five years? I will go back China Aug. 2008,and maybe I will come back to work in America after more than five years, so will I need to take part in the Bar examination over again when I want to work as a lawyer in America? if I need over again, I will decide to don't take part in the Bar examination of CA now.
About the MPRE examination, can I take part in Louisiana,or do I need take part in CA? I am just a visiting scholar in Tulane University without credit of Ametica law courses.
