what percentage does MBE count for the whole thing? Can someone break down the whole grading system in the FL bar for me?

You Need an Averaged Scale Score of 136 To pass by the Overall Method

    Hi there...

Scores in FL are graded in 2 different ways: individual method and overall method.

Individual Method: You need to get a score of at least 136 for both the FL and MBE sections in order to pass. This is the method that is used by people who take the exam and fail one section and then choose to re-take only one section in the next examination. Your chances of passing are slightly lower using the individual method.

Overall Method: Your FL and MBE scaled scores are averaged and if you get a score of at least 136 you pass. It doesn't matter if your score in one section or the other is below the 136...it's the average score that matters. So basically you can fail the FL or the MBE section and still pass the FL bar exam if your overall score is at least 136. Because of this your chances of passing with the overall method are slightly higher than the individual method.

    Good luck!

ps: the previous post was referring to the old rules! The FL bar changed it's rule recently (within the past 2-3 years) I think they changed the scores from a required 131 to then a 133 and now it's a 136. In order to get the BEST information go the Florida Board of Bar Examiners page. As of 2007 I know you can use the averaged 136 score in order to pass!
