Thread: IL bar exam essay

  1.   IL bar exam essay #1
Hi, I just took the MO bar exam, and my firm is making me also take the IL bar exam. I don't have to take the MBE again, but I would like to know what I need to do to pass the essay portion, thanks!

    don't take a full class

I would buy the used ILL Barbri material or google for a good commercial bar outlines for review if you have already passed the MO bar exam.

    It's pretty easy I heard

    Civil procedure

The way you write an essay is basically the same. However, IL civ pro is very very different from MO civ pro. from depositions to jurisdiction to venues, you have to pay a lot of attention to it. Overall, it's not a hard transition from MO to IL, but you have to get a good set of study materials with all the IL specific law. Good luck!

Buy the IL study materials off someone who just took it
I was in the same boat as you, except I originally took the Wisconsin bar. I borrowed a set of BarBri materials from a friend and reviewed the practice essays/outlines. FYI, Illinois added new subjects to the state-specific essays effective with the July 2007 bar, the revised topics are on their website (admin/tax/MBE topics are new). If you purchase materials online, make sure that its from the most recent bar, anything older won't have the new outlines. Good luck
