I heard a rumor that you get easier grading from being the front of the pack b/c bar graders know you are a repeat taker and grade harder. Is there any truth to that? If so, should I go ahead and file the application even though I am not sure if I am going to take the Feb 2008 bar exam or not??

just a little bit. You know it's totally a mental game. Some bar graders may be influenced by it, but most of them just follow the grading sheet and look for answers.

essays are not graded by only one CA Bar Exam grader. They go through a few rounds, so any bias is likely evened out if one grader has such a tendency.

I’ve never heard of this, and I don’t believe it. I do not think they have any idea when they are looking at an exam whether it’s your first time or your 50th. I do think that it’s possible that the first few and the last few essays they see they grade more easily, b/c they have less to compare it to. However, it could also work in the reverse. Meaning, they are harder on the first few and the last few b/c with the first few, they aren’t sure if everyone missed these issues or not. Supposedly, you are given credit for what you write (and of course how you write it). I passed a bar exam and am going to take another one in February. I plan to know as much as I can and leave the rest to God!
