Thread: Waiting for July results

  1.   Waiting for July results #1
Need advice on how to approach the exam in Feb if I need to. I will be working part time and will only have two weeks off for the bar if I have to take it again. I do not have any live courses near me and I need more than just barbri and a tuna budget. Tutor or full bar review? Need suggestions. I am a California repeater.

    Hi Steffcox,

Since you are working part time, I think your biggest challenge is to find time to practice. I will recommend you focusing on practicing even more so than the first time, where your focus could be divided among comprehension and application. As a repeater, I think you should focus on application and make sure you learn from all the mistakes you have made.

The general practice schedule breakdown is:
--33 MBE questions in the morning (for an hour or two), review at night (2 hours, 1 hour for reading the answers/finding the right answers), 1 hour for taking good notes of your mistake)
--2 essay questions at night (also for an hour or 2), review (2 hours, 1 hour for reading the model answer, and 1 hour for taking notes/making outlines/perfecting outlines)
--read bar outlines/study materials to understand the materials you find challenging

It should average about 4-8 hours per day, depends on how fast a reader/learner you are. It should last 7 days a week if possible. Take off a day a month to regenerate your study energy.

Save the barbri money for actual California bar exam study time ;)

    Good luck!

If you are a repeat taker, I'd go with an individual tutor. That way, the tutor can work with you specifically, and your individual schedule. For repeat takers, this is much more effective than large group study sessions. Sometimes, it's not a matter of how much time you put into studying, but how effective you are.

LawTutors, LLC has individual tutors in the LA area, and I know there are other CA individual tutors.

    Good Luck!
