what kind of music should I listen to when I am studying for the bar exam? Listening to classical music makes me fall asleep. Listening to my favorite punk music distracts me cuz' I sing along too much. Not listening to anything makes me not being able to concentrate. What should I do? Tips and recommendations highly appreciated Category: NY - New York Bar Exam |

Personally, I wouldn't listen to any music when studying for the bar. I am planning to sit for February NY bar. I have already passed MA, and the amount of concentration needed didn't give me the feeling that I had time to study.

It is obviously an individualized thing, i liked to listen to music that was in between what you described-- i listened to a lot of counting crows, mat kearney, cranberries, and some classical. i can't focus when it is quiet either-- not that quiet because people are rustling, etc whether you are in a library or a coffee house, so the music helps, but you have to be able to listen and zone out at the same time-- i.e. if you are "hearing" the lyrics or worse, singing along, not a good idea.

Maybe you can try turning down the volume of your music. sometimes we all just need white noise, but nothing more than that.

Have to agree with CaBarTutor, I listen to stuff that I like well enough to be white noise, but don't like well enough to sing along. one thing I did as well was find stupid TV shows (i studied at home) that I wasn't interested in paying attention to, but that offered good background noise. |

I have listened to VI Cinema music and keep it low. I would listen to upbeat instrumentals or music that is not distracting. I have heard the classical is good but it does put me to sleep as well. I would not listen to your favorite station unless it does not distract you.
