What should a 3L do to prepare for the bar exam

I am going to take the Ca bar exam in July, 2008, and I want to know what are the things I need to start doing (besides getting my JD) in order for that to happen.

Application for the Determination of Moral Character:

> Typical time it takes to complete: 4-6 months or longer.
> When it can be filed: Anytime after a student's first year of law study, but typical recommendation is for the application to be filed at least 8 months prior to the date the applicant expects to be admitted to the practice of law in California.
> A positive determination of moral character is good for a period of 24 months from the date of the initial positive determination of moral character by the Committee of Bar Examiners.
> Additional information and the application form can be found under Bar Exam Admissions at www.calbar.ca.gov.

Fingerprinting:
> Applicants are required to submit fingerprints through the Live Scan system with the application for Moral Character Determination. A list of agencies providing the Live Scan fingerprinting service can be found at the California Attorney General - Department of Justice website: http://ag.ca.gov/fingerprints/publications/contact.htm.
> Please read the fingerprint instructions carefully for California residents contained in the Moral Character Determination Application Instructions found on the California Bar website.
> Some schools arrange for fingerprinting to be done at the Law School in October. Please check with your law school for details.

Multi-state Professional Responsibility Examination (MPRE):
The exam is administered 3 times a year at established test centers across the country. Passing scores are established by each jurisdiction. Complete information, including test dates, and on-line registration for the examination is available at www.ncbex.org. The next test date is November 3, 2007.

Just relax

while pinky's info is helpful and all, I think you should just relax and bascially follow what BarBri tells you to do. They will give you a schedule to study, and if you follow it, basically you will pass. Too many people just don't take their assignments seriuosly, and I think that's the problem.

Re: What should a 3L do to prepare for the bar exam

Take bar classes
I know this is a debated issue, but I felt that taking bar exam subjects in law school was very helpful when it came time to prepare. It depends on your learning style, but I did not think I could learn and absorb an entire semester or year's worth of material in one to two days. Your bar study time will be limited, and you'll want to be memorizing the material and then practicing it, not learning it for the first time. It also depends on whether you're trying to specialize in a certain practice area while in law school and have scheduling issues--but I would make sure to hit the subjects that are heavily tested in your state. Practice areas often change after law school anyway.
