![]() | Re: California Feb 2008 Study Group - flash cards and study notes I passed the CA bar on my first try without using a commercial course. (I did use books i bought used on craigslist.) I bring this up because in response to your question, i would advise AGAINST using other people's flashcards. I believe-- based on my own experiences (took and passed MA my first time and then took the CA bar only 6 months later studying alone and passed that)-- that 99% of the benefit of flashcards is gained in MAKING them. Trust me here-- it sticks in your brain not just by "flashing" in front of your eyes, or by reviewing them over and over-- the most beneficial part is choosing what to write, and handwriting it out yourself-- mind/body connection. good luck! ![]() | Re: California Feb 2008 Study Group - flash cards and study notes Thank you Cabartutor. I do agree that making your own flashcards or even write your own law review books will totally solidify your understanding in law and thus bar exam. However, making flashcards take a lot of time. I think having made flashcards can totally give you a head start, so that you can start studying and not in the constant "preparing to study" mode. I never do well preparing my own materials, from law school to mpre, I use other people's materials and passed with a flying color... So thank you very much for your input, but if you have some to share, I will still greatly appreciate cuz' they really worked for me:) |

![]() | Re: California Feb 2008 Study Group - flash cards and study notes Hi John, I handwrote out a lot -- i don't want to scare anyone, but i handwrote out probably 500-800 cards. Of course, do what works for you. they are not in computer format, and they are like my children!(considering the 2 bars they got me through and the hours and hours i spent on them) so i can't loan them out. however, as to your comment, i would say that making these was in no way "preparing to study" it was studying in an active way-- which makes your brain repond better and be more alert to the learning process. Think about it-- choosing the words, thinking about the rule you are writing on the card, writing it, and then reading it over before moving on VS. reading pages of outlines over and over, so bored you are half-asleep. to each his own... good luck and hope you find your cards, CBT
