Re: Does anyone know of a tutor for the MBE's alone?

Other than Pmbr, I don't know of anybody who teaches just to the MBEs. (BTW, where in the state are you located? Knowing that might help us refer you to a tutor.) (from me not Jay: AdaptiBar and MicroMash are online programs that do not provide real person coaching)

However, there are a number of good MBE self-study resources out there.

Probably my favorite in terms of both rules review and in learning how to do a basic legal analysis (which you need, of course, for both the MBEs and the essays) are the flashcards put out by emanuel.
These are readily available, _very_ well done, relatively inexpensive (about $30.00 per box), and promote active learning. They're availabe for most subjects on the California bar, and their MBE material is really solid.

There are a number of self-study books on the MBEs out there. Jeff Fleming puts out a two-volume set containing over 1000 MBE-type questions (including some on civ pro and some on PR). Steven Finz
puts out his single-volume "multistate method" book that also contains over 1000 MBE-type questions -- in this case, on only the six MBE areas. Both the Flemings and the Finz books contain detailed
answer to the questions, and both can be obtained for about $60.00.

Multistate Legal Press (which owns Pmbr, or perhaps vice versa, or something along those lines) puts out single-volume "finals" books that cover a given subject in great detail, including numerous MBE-type questions. These run about $30.00 per book.

Finally, one can often find used MBE (and other material) from BarBri, Pmbr, Barpassers, and other places for sale on eBay and in legal bookstores. (For example, I've seen them for sale at America's
Legal Bookstore in downtown Sacramento.)
