Employment opportunities for English graduates who sit the Bar

Someone asked me this question,

I'm a LLB graduate from London and considering sitting the NY Bar. I know its perfectly fine to sit it, but my concern is whether there are actually any realistic employment opportunities for English graduates who sit the Bar. Can we expect to find work in NY? My gut tells me employers would want people with a JD or at least UK qualified lawyers.

and my personal opinion is that it is extremely difficult to find a legal job in NY right now unless you are a top 10% JD. However, I did have some friends who got the offer through doing a year of free internship b/c he proved himself to be very "billable".

I would like to hear what others think regarding this issue.

totally agree. The LLM international students I have met are all having difficulties landing a job in NY. The few that did have passed the bars in both their native country and the US.
