I just failed the bar exam, and I really thought I did my best. I took BarBri, did all the assignment, and went to the simulation test... I can't say that I did my absolute best, but I don't think I underperformed or anything like that, should I not try again b/c I will just fail again? If not, what can I do to pass? what can I do differently? If I shouldn't take the bar exam, then what should I do??? Category: Bar Exam - General |

First of all, I would asess what you really want to do. If you want to be a lawyer, take it again! PLENTY of people fail the bar on the first try, and then go on to be VERY successful lawyers. So, first of all, decide if you want to take it again, which I suggest you do (law school was the hard part, right?) Then, I would not take BarBri or Pmbr again (since you did it once, you won't gain any new information) Instead, I would change your study habits. You can do this by consulting with a one on one tutor. I"m not sure where you live, but my company has in person tutors in Massachusetts, New York and California, and we do distance tutoring for all other states. I'm also sure there are other one on one tutors in other states. An individual tutor can guide you in studying smarter, becuase even if you put in a lot of time, you might not have studied correctly. I know this sounds crazy, but you'd be amazed at the difference a study technique makes in your success. If you have any questions, feel free to email me. Good Luck - and definitely keep trying! |

If you studied a lot and don't know what you did wrong, I would recommend that you get a tutor. A good tutor will be able to look at your essays and provide you with immediate feedback on what you are doing wrong. For some people, a review course is not enough. Good luck.

Does anyone know how to get a tutor in Ohio? I just found out that I failed the 2008 July Ohio Bar Exam and it is really getting to me. I studied very hard and worked at it everyday for 3 months and I still failed by 35 points (out of 600 possible points, needed 405 to pass). I do get nervous for exams and I have never been good at standardized tests, but I still don't understand how I could have failed by that much...any suggestions??????

I failed the MA exam by 35 points myself. I feel the same way you do. I don't know what or how to study for the February exam. I've been looking for a tutor in MA, but would have to travel 1.5 hours to Boston. I'm looking for a tutor who can teach me how to take the test instead of teaching me the law. SUGGESTIONS APPRECIATED!!!

Yeah I passed!! What an experience to go through and never again. All those endless hours of studying paid off. I was just so glad when I came out of that test that my fiance was there to support me and help me through the recovery from the test. It was already over at that point, but that emotional support definately helped to forget taking the test. Now these last few months of worrying are over too! Kathee what part did you have trouble on the essay or the multiple choice? The MC is just a matter of taking and retaking as many questions as possible. It gets to be like shooting a basketball soon you just get int he zone and see the patterns of how they ask the questions. As far as taking the test vs learning the law. I would focus on the law part more than just how to take the test, you can do sample practice sessions for that. |
