MPRE passing %

Hi there,

Could someone please tell me the actual percent required to pass the MPRE in NYC. I believe the scalled passing score required is 85 but what is this score in percentage terms? Is it 25/50 correct questions?

Many thanks in advance,
David

Re: MPRE passing %

The MPRE is scored on a national basis so I'm not sure what you mean when you ask for the % required to pass in NYC.
If you are asking about the score the NY bar requires, it is a scaled score of 85 (as of 2008). The MPRE score (x/50) is converted to a scaled score ranging from 50-150, with 100 equal to the mean (average) score nationally.
Like the MBE, the mean will vary from exam to exam. I know from my experience that the first time I took it I got 30 correct out of 50 and that equalled a scaled score of 84. I know from talking to friends that
I needed an 85 for where I wanted to be admitted so I retook it and got a scaled score of 90. On this exam my score report did not tell me how many correct I got. I'm not sure if this is still the case as my exams were a few years ago.

Re: MPRE passing %

Thanks for getting back to me. I was really enquiring as to roughly how many questions you have to get correct in order to pass for NYC. Realistically, taking the extra 10 questions into consideration, I would probably be aiming at 40 out of the 60 or maybe 34 correct out of the 50 actual MPRE questions to ensure I get it.
Thanks again,
D
