NY Outline

Hi I am a foreign graduate intending to take the NY bar this July.

I bought the BarBri materials and I'm preparing for the bar indepedently. However, I'm quite confuse as to the outline of the exam. Pls someone help on the following queries:

1. am I right in thinking that the exam is splitted into 3 main parts, ie New York, MBE, and MPRE?
2. the essay part, does it only cover New York? and the MBE multiplechoice?
3. I notice that Criminal procedure is under multistate, does this mean the New York State has no procedure of its own? I mean all States follow the same criminal procedure? how about criminal law (substantive law)?

I would appreciate if any one can help me out. Thank you!

Re: NY Outline

1. am I right in thinking that the exam is splitted into 3 main parts, ie New York, MBE, and MPRE?

Technically speaking, there are 4 parts:
The New York essays, the New York multiple-choice, the performance test, and the MBE are each graded separately.

2. the essay part, does it only cover New York? and the MBE multiplechoice?
Essay part only covers NY spec. But you should always know the federal law first, then NY spec. It should always state: generally, XXXX, in NY, XXX.
NY multiple choice looks like MBE but tests NY spec. Check out

3. I notice that Criminal procedure is under multistate, does this mean the New York State has no procedure of its own? I mean all States follow the same criminal procedure? how about criminal law (substantive law)?

Nope, NY has its own spec. But know the federal law first and know the NY spec on insanity test and other variations.
