I have a doctor degree in science. I have been thinking to get into the law business for about a year. I am particulary interested in patent law. I checked the website and I thought I can study on my own and take the first year exam, and subsequently the State Bar exam (of course after more study). I thought that logically, considering that I have a graduate degree already, I can do that. However, the adminstiration office of Cal Bar told me that I have to be admitted to one of the "credible law school" they have on thier list. I also have to take the LSAT regardless of my doctor degree in SCIENCE, they added. I found this website with this suggestion about "Law office study program": http://www.wikihow.com/Pass-the-Cali...out-Law-School Is this true? I am not a member at this site, I will very much appreciate it if you can email me your feedback at drsally70@yahoo.com Thank you for your suggestions and feedback in advance.

Yes, you may find this other post on Studyfor.com helpful http://studyfor.com/law/answers/ques...119&remind=yes In short, you can do the work-study thing under a judge or an attorney and earn your qualification for taking the bar exam without going to law school, but the process will take you even longer than going to law school. I think that's why they are recommending you to just enroll in a credited law school. If you have a good job and can't just take off, I think you should just go ahead and find a law school online and study while you work. If the on-line school that is the best for your schedule is not accredited, then you can take what's called "baby-bar" and still take the bar exam. In that case, you can basically just take the LSAT and get into any non-accredited law school with your Science degree. I hope it helps. Please leave any follow-up questions by "Add Discussion" |

Can you specify your state? which bar exam are you interested in taking? Assuming you are asking for the big states like CA and NY, then yes, you can do the law office study program. |
