I will be taking the NV Bar in Feb. 2008 and was wondering if anyone had any advice on which study course I should take? I took the WA bar in July; however, it is one of the few oddball states which does not require the MBE. Thus, I'm very concerned about taking a study course which will adequately prepare me for this portion of the NV bar. Additionally, I will also be working full time, in a remote area in NV, so the BarBri classroom course is not an option. While I have looked into BarBri's IPOD course, with taxes and fees the cost is outrageous. If I need to take the IPOD course to feel sufficiently prepared, I will do it, but I'm wondering (particularly after already taking a bar exam, where the law is fairly similar) if I need to take an expensive BarBri course. Any suggestions? Thanks for your advice.

I say study on your own. MBE is not hard really. Personally, I think you should get a simulated test for like 10 dollars or less on ebay, take the test without studying, grade yourself and evaluate the need for a course, the time you need to study for it, and the amount of money you are willing (or needing) to spend on it. Since the bar is similar between the 2 states, you should probably prep by getting materials and doing it on your own. For subjects you are less familiar with, get a tutor maybe once or twice a month b/c practicing is the most important thing, not the learning part. Get a list of things you have to know and check it off. 2 weeks before the bar, get or make an outline you can review with and just brush up and familiarize. You'll do well!!! Good luck!! Pmbr may really help you in this case If I were you I would study the essay portion on my own because you have been fully trained in the prior Washington bar exam, and then take a supplement class like Pmbr for your MBE. Basically, for MBE, all you need is a lot of practice, review, and learning about your own multiple choice test-taking habit and personal technique (for me, I had to skip all the long questions b/c I was too slow, for some people, they just have to skip all the number problems in Property) In any case, get some old MBE questions to practice with and learn from your own mistakes. AdaptiBar, Pmbr or MicroMash have those questions and answers for you while BarOutlines.com have the outlines for you to learn the black letter law. |

Practice your MBE... on your own Have you thought about just buying unmarked MBE questions/answers on Craigslist and just practice many of the same questions over and over and over until you understand how they got to the answer they did. I did 25 questions a day- that's it! BUT, I did those questions for at least 8-10 minutes each!!! I would read them and take notes, and if it was a really important question I would circle it and save it for a review day. Also, I started 4 months out and think that made all the difference. I can't believe people would do 50 MBE's a day - That would be way to overwhelming. |
