Does anyone have any suggestions on how to approach studying for the Essay topics (or a sample schedule)? I understand that there are either 15 or 16 topics to review and I am not sure how to schedule study time for each topic in addition to the MBE study schedule. For instance how many days do I allow to go thru the 200 page essay subject outline on each topic, and do I return to that subject like I am with the MBE subjects Or should I just focus on reviewing past essay questions? (I am using bar outlines and MicroMash as my study prep programs) I appreciate any suggestions. Thanks! Category: TN - Tennessee Bar Exam |

I think that you should spend about 3 hours on each topic, may it be an outline or a lecture, except for the MBE subjects which should be emphasized and you should spend 6 hours on each subject. For example, you should spend 6 hours studying the substantive law of property, but only 3 hours on subjects like family law. Then, you should practice at least 50 MBE questions a day + 2 essay questions a day. Before your exam, remember to take 2 days off and take the simulation test. Review your MBE questions thoroughly and outline your essay questions. Hope it helps |

It's not that bad, really. Break it down subject by subject. You're not going to be able to learn everything in those outlines. That's impossible. I sat in TN last year (and passed) and realized that the answers they are looking for on the essay portions are for the most part pretty basic. I passed at least seven of them and none of my answers looked like the sample ones in the BarBri book. I seriously doubt that someone wrote each of those in 30 minutes with no material to look at. You should set up a schedule for yourself and decide what part of the day you will do essays, what part you will do MBEs, etc. What I would do is tackle the MBE subjects first. Spend a couple of days on each of them. Once you have the MBE subjects down (somewhat), it will make learning the state distinctions much easier. Do the MBE stuff first, then work on the other subjects, and come back to the MBE subjects toward the end. Definitely do a simulated MBE a few weeks before the exam -- 100 questions in the morning and 100 questions in the afternoon -- just like the real exam. We all were pretty disappointed in our simulated scores, but it showed where our weaknesses were and gave us time to improve. |
