I heard that people can get an OK LSAT, pass all law school exams, and then pass the bar exam with no problem but cannot find a job. Is that true?

Not if you aced your 1L grade. If you aced it, then you will be that top 20% people who can find a pretty decent job pretty easily

yes, it's true, but not if you went to the top 5 law schools, and not if you graduated from the top 10%. For the rest, yes, it's quite hard to find a law-related job. You can always find a job, just not the one you originally wanted.

If You Want It, You Can Get It!

What I have found is that if you are willing to clerk for a year right out of law school (or do an externship or internship while in law school), you can make the transition fairly easily -- even if you did not do as well as you would have liked in law school. A lot depends on where you live, how many government jobs are available where you can actually do this kind of work, etc. The other option (which is what I did), is to hang up your own shingle right out of law school. This may seem a bit intimidating, but it is absolutely possible! You can contact your local bar and see if they have the sole practioner section that you can join. There are so many options -- you just may need to look beyond the traditional "I want to go work for a big firm" mentality. Honestly, I worked for a big L.A. firm as a litigator for years and working on my own was more suited to me for creating the right balance between work and personal life.
