What You Need to Know About the 2009 Idaho Bar Exam

The Idaho Bar Exam is a 2-1/2-day exam -- Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday -- with the essays and performance questions on Monday and Tuesday and the multiple-choice Multistate Bar Exam on Wednesday.

First Day (Monday) afternoon session:
* Three hours
* Four Idah Essay Questions

Second Day (Tuesday) morning session:
* Three hours
* Six Multistate Essay Exam (MEE) Questions

Second Day (Wednesday) afternoon session:
* Three hours
* Two 90-minute Multistat Performance Test (MPT) Questions

Third Day (Wednesday) morning session:
* Three hours
* Six Multistate Essay Exam (MEE) Questions
* 100 Multipal-Choice Questions

Third Day (Wednesday) afternoon session:
* Three hours
* Six Multistate Essay Exam (MEE) Questions
* 100 Multipal-Choice Questions

You may transfer a previous MBE scaled score from another jurisdiction if taken within 25 months of the date of the current exam. The Idaho Board recommends that your transferred score be at least a scaled score of 140.risdiction.

Grading of the Idaho Bar Exam: Your score on the MBE counts for 1/3 of your total score. Your performance on the essay questions and performance tests counts for 2/3 of your total score. Idaho requires an overall performance of 70% to pass. Idaho generally releases the results of the Summer exam in early September and the results of the Winter exam in early April.

*Idaho MPRE Minimum: 85

Admission on Motion: (i.e., without having to sit for the bar exam)

Attorneys licensed in Washington State or in Oregon may be eligible for admission to Idaho on motion. All other applicants must take the Idaho Bar Exam.

Attorneys who have actively practiced law in five of the seven years preceding their Idaho application are not required to take the MBE portion of the Idaho Bar Exam.
