What You Need to Know About the 2008 Mississippi Bar Exam

The Mississippi Bar Exam is a three-day exam -- Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday -- with essays on Monday, the Multistate Essay Exam and the Multistate Performance Test on Tuesday and the multiple-choice Multistate Bar Exam on Wednesday.

First Day (Monday):
* Six One-Hour Mississippi Essay Questions

Second Day (Tuesday) morning session:
* Three hours
* Two 90-minute Multistate Performance Test (MPT) questions

Second Day (Tuesday) afternoon session:
* Three hours
* Six Multistate Essay Exam (MEE) questions

Third Day (Wednesday) afternoon session:
* Three hours
* Multistate Bar Examination (MBE)
* 100 Multiple-Choice questions.

Third Day (Wednesday) afternoon session:
* Three hours
* Multistate Bar Examination (MBE)
* 100 Multiple-Choice questions.

Mississippi will accept your MBE score taken in another jurisdiction if you took the MBE within 20 months prior to the Mississippi Bar Exam.

Grading of the Mississippi Bar Exam: The MBE is weighted 40%. The six Mississippi essays are weighted 30% The MEE is weighted 15% The MPT is weighted 15% of your final score. Mississippi generally releases the results of the Summer exam in mid-September and the results of the Winter exam in mid-April.

*MPRE You must receive a scaled score of at least 75 on the MPRE. This score must be received within 24 months before, or within 12 months after, passing the regular Mississippi Bar Exam.

Admission on Motion: Mississippi does NOT permit admission on motion. To be admitted to the Mississippi bar, you must take and pass the Mississippi Bar Exam. However, if you have practiced law in a reciprocal jurisdiction for at least five years you may be able to take the Mississippi Attorneys' Exam, instead of the full Mississippi Bar Exam.

Note: You must establish an office in Mississippi within 30 days of your admission.
