What You Need to Know About the 2009 NJ Bar Exam

The New Jersey Bar Exam is a two-day exam -- Wednesday and Thursday -- with the multiple-choice Multistate Bar Exam on Wednesday and seven essays on Thursday.

First Day (Wednesday) morning session:
* Three hours
* Multistate Bar Examination (MBE)
* 100 Multiple-Choice questions.

First Day (Wednesday) afternoon session:
* Three hours
* Multistate Bar Examination (MBE)
* 100 Multiple-Choice questions.

Second Day (Thursday) :
* Seven Essay Questions (MBE)

If you take two bar exams at the same time (local in another state, such as Pennsylvania or New York, on Tuesday, the MBE in either state on Wednesday, the essay/MPT day in New Jersey on Thursday), New Jersey will accept the score of the MBE taken in either state. Check to see if your other state has the same policy on accepting the MBE. If not, be certain to take the MBE in the other state, so that it will apply to both jurisdictions.

Grading of the New Jersey Bar Exam: The New Jersey Bar Exam is weighed as follows: Seven Essay Questions -- 50% Multistate Bar Exam (MBE) -- 50% The scores are combined. The New Jersey results are generally released in mid to late November for the Summer exam, and in early May for the Winter exam.

*MPRE -- New Jersey requires EITHER a scaled score of 75 on the MPRE or at least a C in a law school PR course.

Admission on Motion: Only qualifying law school professors are eligible for admission on motion. All others must take and pass the New Jersey Bar Exam.
